History of the Gotcha Fly

The Gotcha fly was first tied in the 1970s by Jim McVay during a fishing trip to Andros Island, Bahamas. After struggling to find the perfect fly, McVay improvised with pink craft fur and a piece of silver Mylar he borrowed from his daughter’s hair clip. His creation proved so effective that guides and anglers alike started calling it the “Gotcha” for how often bonefish were hooked with the fly.
